M&CO Legal was honoured to participate in the high-profile Indo-UAE Business Dialogue held in Chennai, themed “Doing Business and Resolving Disputes in the UAE: Strategic Insights for Indian Companies.” The event was jointly organised by The Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) and Lex Creditus Special Situations & Litigation Financing, and served as a key platform for exploring evolving trade, investment, and legal ties between India and the UAE.
Our Founding Partner, Dr. Mahmood Hussain, delivered a keynote speech on “Building in the UAE: A Gateway for Indian Construction Firms,” where he underscored the importance of trust, proximity, and strong cultural and economic ties in fostering bilateral collaboration. He highlighted the significance of the CEPA agreement, the rapid expansion of trade exceeding USD 100 billion, and the presence of over 247,000 Indian businesses in the UAE as evidence of deepening cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, and fintech.
Our Head of International Arbitration, Mr. Tariq Khan, addressed a critical legal issue affecting cross-border dispute resolution—India’s lack of formal notification of the UAE as a reciprocating territory under Section 44B of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. He stressed that rectifying this legal gap would enhance certainty and confidence in arbitration enforcement. Mr. Khan also shed light on the growing relevance of DIFC and ADGM Courts as pro-enforcement jurisdictions, and the essential role of Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) in providing globally aligned dispute resolution.
The event was graced by key judicial figures, including Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. Sundar and Hon’ble Dr. Justice R. N. Manjula of the Madras High Court, along with other distinguished speakers from leading corporations and law firms.
M&CO Legal is proud to have contributed to such a meaningful dialogue that reflects our continued commitment to cross-border legal collaboration and regional economic growth.
